Resident Evil 6 pre-order maps now available to all

Amonth after the release of Resident Evil 6, Capcom has announced on the Capcom Unity blog that the map pack that was originally exclusive to those who had pre-ordered the game is now available for purchase for everyone on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The map pack contains three maps – High Seas Fortress, Rail Yard, and Catacombs. The maps are available on Xbox Live and PlayStation Store for 80 Microsoft points / $0.99 each, which roughly converts to Rs 53.

Resident Evil 6 had been released on October 2 for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. So far, Capcom has given no release date for a PC version. Early in September, Capcom had announced that the PC version of Resident Evil 6 won’t be trivial. Senior VP of Capcom, Christian Svensson said, "It is a small, but appropriately sized team working on the RE6 PC project. It is a different group than originally planned, lest it would have taken even longer than it currently will but this team will do a better job than what was being considered originally".

Resident Evil 6 is set to have three multiplayer modes that will be sold as downloadable content (DLC). The DLCs are to be timed exclusives for the Xbox 360, with no word from Capcom about the PlayStation 3 or PC versions for the DLCs. The three multiplayer modes include Predator mode, Siege mode and Survivor mode.

In Predator mode, one player plays the 'Ustanak', who is a huge monster, reminiscent of the Tank from Left 4 Dead. The Ustanak has to go around the map and kill all the other players. Siege mode is a team based escort mission mode where one team has to keep an NPC alive while the other team has to kill it. The third mode, Survivor mode, is a team-based mode, where one team has to survive the other team’s (who are zombies) attempts to kill them. If a survivor dies in this mode, he respawns as a zombie and the game becomes a last-man-standing ordeal.

Resident Evil is one of Capcom’s most successful franchises yet. Resident Evil 6 was originally set to have three playable characters – Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield and Jake Muller, all three with their own storylines that will eventually converge. Though back in September, Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu revealed that Resident Evil 6 will feature a fourth campaign that can be unlocked. The fourth campaign will feature Ada Wong as a playable character, and will be unlocked once the three main campaigns of the game have been cleared.

Another big feature for Resident Evil 6 is Residentevil.net. The free online service got a trailerback in August, which showcased many of the features of the service, such as giving Capcom the capability to hold events, which will reward gamers with in-game items such as skins. Capcom quotes an example of one such event, “let's say one weekend the goal is to kill 10,000 zombies. Everyone who has an RE.net account and plays during that time period will receive RE.net points that can be redeemed on the site for a variety of goodies - chief among them new costumes that appear in the actual game”.
