Sony launches slimmer PlayStation 3 in India

Sony has launched a new PlayStation 3, featuring a new design and a downsized form factor for Indian consumers. The new PS3 will be available at a special introductory Diwali price. The new PS3 will come in two models: an extended built-in Hard Disk Drive (HDD) capacity of 500GB model and a newly added 12GB flash memory model.

The 500GB PS3 with two full value games offered free of cost will be released for a limited period offer price of Rs 19,990. This will include the games Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Game of the Year Edition, and Gran Turismo 5: Academy Edition.

The 12GB PlayStation 3 with the PlayStation Move bundle included will be released for a limited period offer price of Rs 18,990. This will include the PlayStation Move kit – which includes the Eye camera along with the PlayStation Move controller – and the Move Street Cricket game.

The internal design architecture has been completely redone in the new PS3. The internal volume and weight of the new PS3 has been reduced by more than half of that of the first PS3 model with 60GB HDD, and by 20 percent, and 25 percent respectively than of the current PS3. It has a sliding disk cover.

With the extra HDD capacity, which has been extended from the 320GB and 160GB capacity of the previous models, users can store and enjoy more content on the new PS3.

Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) will further accelerate the expansion of the PS3 platform, which is in the 7th year of its lifecycle, by continually releasing a vast library of software titles and offering users a choice from a variety of hardware models.

Sony had unveiled the new slimmer version of the PlayStation 3 back in September during this year’s Tokyo Game Show. The new, slimmer PlayStation 3 will be available in two models – one with a 250GB hard drive, and one with a 500GB hard drive. With this release, Sony seems to be foregoing the launch of the 250GB model in India.

Back in August, Sony made the announcement for the Game of the Year edition of Uncharted 3 in a blog post on the PlayStation Europe blog. The game was released in Europe on September 19. Developed exclusively for PlayStation 3 by Naughty Dog, the Game of the Year Edition combines Nathan Drake’s third critically acclaimed adventure, with additional pieces of multiplayer DLC, handpicked by the team for the release.
