Sony Tablet S sales to resume gradually from November

Sony has recently announced that the sales of the Xperia tablet will resume gradually from mid-November. The company apologised for any inconvenience that the halt in sales may have caused.

Early last month, Sony Corp said it has halted sales of its Xperia tablet PCs, a month after its launch, after discovering gaps between the screen and the case that make some of the machines susceptible to water damage.
Sleeker design than its predecessor
Sales to resume shortly

The problem with the tablet, which is supposed to be water resistant, is the result of a manufacturing flaw at the Chinese plant where it was fabricated, said Sony spokeswoman Noriko Shoji. Sony has not yet decided when it will resume sales, she added.

At the IFA 2012 event, Sony had taken the wraps off the Sony Xperia Tablet S, the successor of last year’s edition, the Sony Tablet S. The latest tablet takes a lot of design references from the previous generation model, but features a more refined look. The Xperia Tablet S boasts of a 9.4-inch display and sports a resolution of 1280 x 800. It is a lot thinner than the previous generation's model measuring 8.8mm at its thinnest point.

The brand has used high quality materials in the construction of this tablet, and has a magnesium-aluminium alloy finish. The tablet weighs 570 grams.

Sony has powered this model with a 1.3GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor, and claims that it features all the power needed to run media, apps, and games. The tablet runs on the Android v4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system.

Sony has launched this tablet in three capacities -- 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. The top of the line model should be sufficient for a range of apps as well as videos. A microSD card slot further expands the available storage. Sony has not compromised on the camera optics, and has fitted an 8MP rear shooter, and a 1MP front-facing camera that should be sufficient for video calls. Sony has also added a 6,000mAh battery on this tablet, and claims that it has a life of approximately 10 hours.

Sony has added some new features in here as well and one of these is the Sony Walkman app. The company states, “The ‘Walkman’ application automatically compiles a list of your Facebook friends’ “liked” songs, as well as related discographies. ClearAudio+ mode always ensures rich, satisfying sound – whatever you’re listening to. The ‘Album’ application lets users view, sort and share pictures and videos captured with their Xperia Tablet across an intuitive user interface. The application can also consolidate users’ photos posted on social media sites like Facebook to allow easy commenting. Video content can be enjoyed with high picture and sound quality using the ‘Movies’ application.”
